Guild Wars 2 Release Date Rumors

I’ve received a few emails and texts from friends and listeners that often mention some date that they saw stamped up on the wall of a GameStop for “Coming Soon”, and Guild Wars 2 being slated for 11/2/2010 and stuff like that. It’s important to note that these companies are mostly out to make a buck and one good way to do that is capitalization on hype. They grab a rough release date to get your chops wet so you’ll preorder the game, they get money ahead of time, and then the actual release date comes out in the wash.

Sometimes, they can be off by months. I could go on and on about how useful I think it is to preorder Guild Wars 2, but it’s sufficient to say that any date you see on preorder promotions is mostly pulled from thin air by people that want you to put down cash on the game now instead of later. It’s not official. We don’t have an official release date as of the date of this post. So relaxate [sic] a bit you chumps. Go to the Guild Wars 2 website, subscribe to their RSS feeds, and stay tuned to the major sites surrounding the game like the Guild Wars/Guild Wars 2 Guru sites to get some reliable info.

Added: And if you’d like my take on it, here’s what I expect: Closed beta this fall/winter. Commercial release in early 2011, first quarter probably. I am not informed nor do I have any inside ties as of the time of this posting. This is just my estimation. Nothing more.
