We are joined by Tigerfeet with Secret Agent Cat, Chaz with his totally awesome blog, and Csquirrelrun the mashup man. We give many props to the Guild Wars Awesome development team today, with the release of the dervish update. We discuss the pros and cons of it, Heath Ledger’s joker, some Guild Wars 2 stuff I guess, and accounting.

Huge thanks to anyone and everyone that has helped us to reach 30 episodes and greater quality. You all have a special place in my heart. Just stay off the far left of the couch. That’s my spot.

  1. One thing I wanted to mention. At the end of the podcast when you were discussing weapon sheathing and running faster. A bit related in EoD the Charr warband lead by Rytlock caught up with Logan’s scouting party. Not sure if this minor detail will translate in the game like charrs having a passive ability that lets them run something like 10% faster in passive mode, something that runs on all fours should run faster then running on two legs. Just a thought. Love the show as always

Regarding weapon sheathing: You talked about PvP situations since in PvE that wouldn’t be an issue, right? I can see running faster than the opponent there could be a problem, but in that case ANet disabled sheating in PvP and, as was mentioned, while being in a fight you can’t sheath a weapon anyway so no problemo.

Regarding in-game sound…just turn the music and FX volume down and the voice volume up and run your Best of Metal in the background, I don’t see an issue there either. GW1 has 5 seperate channels, why would GW2 have less?

Griefing will be nonexisting in the extend the one listener made it out to be. Griefers too need something to grief for but if they only get minimal or no rewards for scaling up but not participating in an event they will think twice about wasting that time.

And being afraid of a deserted world if GW2 has Guild Halls…? Some people must be spending sleepless nights and skipping work to have time enough to dream up rediculous fail-scenarios for GW2 (just read every second Guru thread). Just relax, take a deep breath and enjoy the anticipation until release! :)

  3. Before i complain just know this, I love my Dervish and I love how ANet makes changes in the game. I like this update and fully intend to toy with it quite a bit.

My main complaint was the derv cant do as much dmg as the warrior with a scythe – base damage alone. Add on enchts, conditions and yes the derv will be better with a scythe but thats only with the encht up and tear down mechanic.

I was never a fan of the enchantment mechanic with the derv and thats the other thing i was hoping was going to be changed and was not. Everytime I do FOW i put up my critical enchants and cover them with necro/monk enchts from my heros….i never liked that. I dont even do UW with my derv because the hardest most critical part is 4H and the mesmers chew up dervs for lunch so i dont bother using him in there. I have done UW/FOW a lot with my derv and will try it again since the update but I just didnt want to have to use enchtns so much.

oh well, the derv still looks crazy fun and ill share builds with you when i get em :D

ok, im going back to listening to the rest of the podcast :D

    • Really wish you were on the show to argue with us mang. Nobody was there to represent. :(

      • me 2! I was listening to Chaz talk thinking “no, but…” or “yea but what about…”

oh well, this gives me time to actually get some derv under my belt before blurting out opinions, lol.

      • btw, thanks for all the [PIG] love!!! it was awesome!

        :D

  4. Regarding the Dervish, I find it harder to tank now than I did before (That’s probably just me, though). Many of the skills I used to use, such as Conviction and Armour of Sanctity changed too much for me to consider using them.
That’s not a bad thing though, as it’s sort of liberated my Dervish from being stuck in the tanking role, which was starting to get dull.
I love the possibilities that come with the revamped tear downs, and adrenaline attacks make things so much easier to manage, too.
Can’t wait to try out different secondary professions, but I’m really enjoying Dervish/Mesmer at the moment, mostly because of Fragility and condition spamming.

Regarding releasing a 9/10 game… I’m sure they won’t, and I’m glad about that. First impressions are everything. If someone comes into the game, and it doesn’t make an awesome impression (or he stumbles into some irritating bugs, no matter how small), chances are that person will quit the game and never come back… and possibly rant about how bad the game is on every forum he’s on.
I’m sure that’s also why they will not release the open beta sooner… they want the game to be almost finished and fairly bug free before they open it up for the general public.

Sure, there are a lot of GW fans out there who would be more than happy to play the game 90% finished (and just ignore the occasional bug), but there is also a large group of people who are not as
big fans and who depend on their first actual gameplay session for their impressions of the game. You do not want to scare off those by releasing an unfinished/unperfect game.
