Relics of Orr Episode 46, Release the Kraken

I am joined by Shongaqu from Tyrian Stories and Tigerfeet at the Secret Agent Cat blog to review the second Beta Weekend Event and stress test, plus the release date announcement (8/25/12 for prepurchasers and 8/28/12 for all others.)

We jumped into the realm of video and while we found that there are many kinks to be worked out, it’s a fair start. We’re reviewing a few other pieces of software to try out for the upcoming shows, and we can pretty safely guarantee that some of our newer ideas will not disappoint. Our next experiment will be the use of camera views of the hosts while discussing various topics, and playing the game during BWE 3. A podcast and gameplay commentary mixed together for a special sweetness. You hear that RO squad? Best be ready.

More [RO] In Game Stuffs

So I need a name for this little series I’ve been doing. Suggestions appreciated if I don’t come up with something soon. Something that suggests it might be helpful for newbies to the HoM achievement farming types. Anyway, I’ve tossed together a playlist on Youtube so that you can watch those videos specifically. And there will be more to come. Also, this weekend, we’ll be doing this sort of thing, but in Guild Wars 2. Enjoy.

Relics of Orr Goes Postal on the Fraps

As some of you may recall, I spent quite a bit of time dinking around with Livestream. (Coehl on Livestream) I played some Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Valve games, and Champions Online. But today, I wanted to start experimenting with ways to prepare for massive Mumble parties that would be recorded during Guild Wars 2 gameplay, and what better way to do that than in Guild Wars?

Well there was one better way. Using a variety of four letter words and cursing Procaster to the depths of the worst places your disowned uncle once spoke of. By this, I mean I was pissed off. And so a revelation occurred unto me. But soft, what value is the “live” part of it to us really? Seriously, if we’re running a dungeon or something, are we going to be watching chat? Pfff.

So no, I hunkered down, bought Fraps, and started recording.

To get us going on our Youtube endeavors in this regard, I gave us all a nice priming on the Signet of Spirits Ritualist and how he works within the Realm of Torment on the last two missions (Gate of Madness and the one where you dance for Abaddon).

Note that the first two videos were done with a lack of familiarity with whether or not full size or half size was a better idea. As this continues, I’ll refine the resolution more and more, and the third video should be a goofy testament to that.

Guild Wars Turning Six

Six years have passed, two additional campaigns and one expansion pack has been released since that time, giving players new and exciting content. It’s hard to image that six years ago I was standing in a store holding a copy of the original Guild Wars in my hand and grinning like a 2-year-old who just had his first taste of candy. Six years ago you met a little girl who followed you around healing you on your quest to become stronger, at that time you though she was cool. Then she was the annoying kid who would not stop following you and talking about her broken flute. Now she is known as the Commander of the Ebon Vanguard and will later be the founder of Ebonhawke, the last stand against the Charr. Six years have passed she has become famous while we still play the same game, whoever said Video Games don’t educate us. Carpe Diem people, Carpe Diem, but not before you celebrate Guild War’s birthday.

This year, like any other year we’ll get the chance to test our luck, stuff our face and belly with sweets and beverages. Some will get you all giddy, some will make you sick, and some will make you find true love…at least until the effect wears off. If you have the need, the need of speed that is then head over to the Rollerbeetle Race and get the adrenalin pumping, or head over to the Dragon Arena where your feet need to move faster than the wind.

But this year there are extra special treats in store.  Minipets have been replaced with over 30 new tonics to enjoy and collect, which can be used outside towns.  Pre-Searing characters can dress up in their favourite costumes and headgear as 2 new NPCs come to Ascalon City.  Razah finally fulfils his role as the Swiss army knife of heroes who can change into any profession you wish.

Odin poses in his birthday suit

There are more changes coming over the next weeks and months.  Today the first hard mode quest comes to Tyria and of course it had to  be the notorious Villany of Galrath.  For the next six weeks the NCSoft store will be offering discounts on different additions to Guild Wars starting with the costumes introduced in Hearts of the North.  Over the next 5 weeks it will be the turn of extra storage, character slots, extreme makeovers, the Bonus Mission Pack and Eye of the North, so check back regularly to save yourself some money on your purchases.

Finally the biggest change of the update involves the Lunatic Court that was  introduced last Halloween.  The instability caused by their actions has caused the Flux era, the name given to a series of new effects in PvP that change over time.  Could this be another bridge between Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 style of combat?

The build is live now so hop in game to check out the goodies and have yourself a slice of the cake.  Happy Birthday Guild Wars and here’s to a great many more!

Relics of Orr [RO] Presents: Pi[e] Day 2011

In celebration of mathematics and pastries, the Relics of Orr alliance invites you to participate in the first annual Pi[e] Day! Due to the “official” date falling on a weekday (Monday, March 14th, aka 3/14), the event will take place on Sunday, March 13th to ensure the whole of the community is able to participate. The celebration of pie is a timeless tradition, so you are welcome to continue the celebration into Monday if you so choose.

The event will be hosted in Rata Sum in International District 1 from 8pm GMT (4pm EST) to 10pm GMT (6pm EST). If the event is as big as we hope it will be, we may appoint alliance representatives in additional International Districts (it will be announced during the event if this happens). Please note that DST takes effect in the USA on March 13th.

Tasha will be on the digital turntables providing music and announcements during the event on Split Infinity Radio. Please contact her via email (tasha AT siradio DOT fm) with any music requests prior to the event. We cannot guarantee your requests will be played, but please feel free to submit them regardless – you never know!

Our friends at Guild Wars 2 Live have been kind enough to host our LiveStream feed, so even if you can’t be in game you can be part of the action!

Remember, the intent of this event is not only to celebrate the greatest food ever invented as well as the discovery of Pi, but more importantly to bring everyone together for a good time and to promote the best aspect of Guild Wars: the community. Those that wish to donate prizes or would like to volunteer for anything we may need, please do not hesitate to let us know. Log in, get involved and continue to make our community memorable and set apart from the rest!
